Isaac Cruz adds Eddy Reynoso to his camp to get ready for Nestor Bravo
Isaac Cruz has been viewed as a “fan-friendly” fighter who provides a lot of activity in every bout that he has been a part of. Now as the time gets closer to his next bout which will be against Nestor Bravo, the interim WBC super lightweight champion made the decision to add renowned trainer Eddy Reynoso to his team. Cruz feels that adding Reynoso will get him to the elite level that he is striving for.
“I wanted to work with Eddy Reynoso because of his experience and the tremendous job that he’s done with Canelo along with a long list of top fighters,” Cruz said. “His ability to understand fighters, both mentally and technically, and to read each situation, has allowed him to reach the top of the sport. I believe Eddy has the qualities, experience and knowledge we need to compete with the elite of boxing today.”
Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KOs) has been in camp with Reynoso as they prepare for this bout against Bravo (24-1, 17 KOs) who has a style that is similar to what he does in the ring, as they like to go toe to toe with their opponents. However for this fight in San Diego on September 19th, Cruz wants to do more than that in order to get the victory.
“Bravo is a very tough fighter who always comes forward and likes to put on a show,” Cruz said. “I expect Bravo to come out with an aggressive mindset, but we have our own strategy to counter his style.”
It has been a while since Cruz has been in the ring with his last fight resulting in a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in December. He wants to get a win here against Bravo to put him in the mix against some of the top fighters in the super lightweight division. He wants to become a two time champion in the division, and that means stepping in the ring against the winner of Dalton Smith and Alberto Puello or take on big names in the sport.
“I want to make a statement and leave no doubt that I deserve to face the winner of Smith vs. Puello,” said Cruz. “I’m also ready to face any champion in the division. And why not think about facing Teófimo López, Ryan García or any 140-pound champion, such as Gary Antuanne Russell, in the not-too-distant future? But first, we have to take care of business and win on September 19th.”
The fight against Bravo will be an eventful one for Cruz as it is the first time that he will fight in San Diego. He has been in fights multiple times in Los Angeles and received a lot of support but he is excited that he will headline a card in San Diego.
“I’m very happy to be coming to San Diego for the first time,” said Cruz. “It’s a city with a huge Mexican community, and one that was once part of a Mexican territory. I want to give the fans in San Diego and coming up from Tijuana a fight to remember. I’m sure I’m going to feel right at home.”
