Han vs Holm rematch headlines MVPW event May 30th
WBA lightweight world champion Stephanie Han will face former multi-division champion and Hall of Famer Holly Holm in a rematch May 30th in El Paso Texas. This is the main event on MVPW-03, which will be shown live on ESPN.
Han (12-0, 3 KOs) will defend the WBA title in her hometown of El Paso where she has fought five times in her pro career. Han is an eight-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department, plus a mother of two children. Before her pro debut, she trained her sister Jennifer for a bout against Katie Taylor in 2021. Now, Stephanie will defend the title she won last February
“I’m so excited for this rematch,” Han said at the MVPW press conference. “To have this fight in my home city of El Paso is a dream come true, and I’m so excited because I know Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico are going to come out to support this fight.”
Back in January, Han suffered a cut against Holm due to an accidental headbutt, and the fight ended early because of it. The scorecards had Han winning by decision but in this rematch she wants to prove that she is the better fighter.
“Last time the fight ended early because of the cut,” said Stephanie Han. “I got the win, but not the closure. This time in my city, there will be no excuses, no “what ifs”, and no doubt who the better fighter is. I can’t wait to showcase my abilities to millions of fans on ESPN.”
Holm (34-3-3, 9 KOs) is one of the most decorated fighters in combat sports. She has won world titles in the super lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight divisions in boxing and has been a world champion in mixed martial arts. Holm started her career in boxing back in 2002, then competed in mixed martial arts in 2011. After a few years in MMA, she halted her boxing career for 12 years to compete full time in MMA.
Before Holm returned to the boxing ring in 2025, she was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Last June, she won a unanimous decision over Yolanda Vega. For this rematch on May 30th, Holm knows she is going up against a game fighter.
“I’m ready for this rematch,” Holm said. “Han is a disciplined, tough champion, and I respect that. I’m just excited to put the work in and show up and do the best that I can do.”
The accidental headbutt ended the fight early for Holm, and though the decision didn’t go her way, she took that as motivation for this rematch.
“Any fight you have is a learning experience,” she said. “We’ve already addressed a lot of things, putting work in at the gym. On May 30th, I WILL be ready.”
