The Rumor Mill: Barrios-Garcia postponed?
A few months ago on The Rumor Mill, we posted that there was a chance that we could see Mario Barrios defend his WBC welterweight title against Ryan Garcia. In that article, the rumor was that it would be part of a doubleheader scheduled for January. However, on November 20th 2025 Ryan Garcia announced that the fight would be taking place on February 21st. A few weeks later, Mario Barrios talked about the fight and that he would be working with Joe Goossen who is a former trainer for Garcia.
A number of fans and followers of both fighters were anticipating this bout between him and Barrios and it looked like we are a few weeks away from this world title bout, but will it happen as planned?

It has been rumored that even though the bout was scheduled for February 21st, it could be pushed back for one month as there have been some changes going on behind the scenes for one fighter. Even though we are seven weeks away from when the WBC welterweight title fight is supposed to take place, it seems like Barrios vs. Garcia will be slated for March 21st. A co-feature bout has also been rumored to have Armando Resendiz defend the WBA super middleweight title against Edgar Berlanga, and other fights have been bought up to be added on to this event.
What would this change of date mean for Barrios and Ryan? We have not seen them fight for months, as Barrios had a draw against Manny Pacquaio last July and Ryan lost to Rolly Romero by decision last May. Could it lead to a slow start for both fighters when they do step in the ring?
Stay tuned…
