Top Rank wins purse bid for Haney vs Keyshawn WBO title fight

The WBO welterweight title fight that was mandated by the WBO between Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis went to purse bid today in Puerto Rico, and Top Rank won the purse bid for the rights to host the fight. Gardy Lopez represented Top Rank and he sumbitted a bid of 8.55 million dollars to secure the rights, while Milton Lacroix of Takeover Promotions placed a bid of 2.35 million dollars.

With Top Rank winning the bid, they will be the lead promoter for the fight card headlined by Haney and Davis. The details of their bid specified that they plan to have the fight take place on October 3rd, and the locations being considered are Brooklyn (Barclays Center), Atlanta (State Farm Arena), and Las Vegas (Michelob Ultra Arena). Takeover Promotions offered to have the fight take place on October 16th or October 23rd with Sunrise, Florida (Amerant Bank Arena) or Miami (Kaseya Center) as the potential sites for the fight.

WBO president Gustavo Olivieri specified that Keyshawn Davis has 48 hours of the conclusion of the purse bid to agree to go through with the fight. It also was stated that this mandated fight will have to take place before November given the rules of the WBO.

Soon after the purse bid concluded, Top Rank posted on social media that the bout will also be co-promoted by Devin Haney Promotions and a formal announcement of a date and venue will be revealed soon.
