Super featherweight contender Charly Suarez faces Manuel Avila on ProBox July 18th
Super featherweight contender Charly Suarez will be facing Manuel Avila in a bout scheduled for 10 rounds at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California. This bout will be part of a ProBox TV fight card that takes place on July 18th headlined by Bryan Flores versus Jonathan Navarro.
Suarez (18-0, 10 KOs) is from Manila, Phillipines and was a soldier for the Philippine army. He climbed up the rankings in the super featherweight division with a stoppage win over Paul Fleming, followed by victories over Yohan Vasquez and Jorge Castaneda. Last year Suarez took on WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete in a war that ended early due to a cut on Navarrete. The fight went to the scorecards as it was initially ruled that the cut was caused by a headbutt, then the result was changed to a no contest as replays showed that it was from a punch. Despite a rematch being ordered by the WBO, Suarez has not been able to get in the ring against Navarrete who is now a unified champion.
Avila (26-2-1, 9 KOs) is a resident of Fairfield, California who returned to the ring in May against Ruben Garcia after an extensive period out of the ring. He was competing in the featherweight division before his return, with his lone losses coming from Joseph Diaz and Joet Gonzalez. Two of his last three fights have been in Mexico.
Suarez-Avila is one of three bouts added to the ProBox card on July 18th as Yan Marcos will face Guido Emmanuel Schramm plus Oscar Bonifacino will take on Raul Escudero. A full night of fights will be shown live on ProBox TV.
