Jalil Hackett faces Sergiy Derevyanchenko on Zuffa Boxing 09 card
Middleweight contender Jalil “Major” Hackett will take on former world title contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko on July 26th, part of the Zuffa Boxing 09 card that is a 10-round bout at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden. It will open the main card before Edgar Berlanga versus Steven Butler and Richardson Hitchins against Ricardo Salas.
Hackett (12-1, 9 KOs) is from Washington DC and rose up the rankings in the welterweight division after winning 10 national championships as an amateur. His lone loss was by split decision to Jose Roman in 2024. In the middleweight division, Hackett has scored knockout wins over Elijah Vines and Jose Angulo, and at Zuffa Boxing 02 in February he won by decision over Roberto Cruz Jr.
Derevyanchenko (16-6, 11 KOs) challenged for a world title in the middleweight division three times, with the latest one in 2020 against Jermall Charlo. The 2008 Olympian from Ukraine is coming down one division as he competed at super middleweight in his previous four fights. He is known for his battles against current champions Christian Mbilli and Jaime Munguia in that division, and was close to handing Munguia his first loss in 2023.
Hackett-Derevyanchenko will be streamed live on Paramount+ as part of Zuffa Boxing 09: Berlanga vs Butler in North America and will be available on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland.
