Stakes raised for Kelvin Davis against Nahir Albright
Back in October of 2023, Nahir Albright fought Keyshawn Davis in Texas with the result being a majority decision for Keyshawn, but it was changed to a no contest due to Keyshawn being caught with marijuana in his system. Fast forward to Saturday night where Albright will step in the ring to face his older brother with more on the line.
Albright (16-2, 7 KOs) will face Kelvin Davis (15-0, 8 KOs) for the WBC USA super lightweight title tonight at Scope Arena, and it will be the co-feature bout on the Top Rank card. The news of the Keyshawn Davis-Edwin De Los Santos fight being canceled has moved this fight up to the co-feature slot, and it will be approximately at 10pm ET on ESPN.
Kelvin Davis has been amped up for this bout since it was announced, as he spoke with The Boxing Source two weeks ago. At that time he recalled that Albright had talked a lot before and after the Keyshawn Davis bout. At that time Kelvin brought up that Nahir was happy that he went ten rounds with Keyshawn. Even though this bout could have Kelvin in the mix in the super lightweight division, he is not overlooking his opponent.
“I love pressure. Pressure brings out the best in me. So if he acts up, he’s going to sleep,” Davis said. “He’s just a man in my way. I’m trying to show this whole 140-pound division what it is.”
Albright has the opportunity to make up for what happened against Keyshawn and at the same time get in the mix for the super lightweight division. The 29 year old from Philadelphia mentioned that he had to take gigs outside of the boxing ring to make money since he was inactive.
“After the Keyshawn Davis fight, it was disappointing. I had to go back home to Philly and go back to work. I’m a single dad. I had to provide for my daughter. And it was hard. But I’m here. I got through it. I stayed strong through it all. I continued to train. I just stayed positive through it all.”
He also recalled the time that Kelvin was saying something to him during fight week for his bout against Keyshawn.
“I was at the press conference, and Kelvin was like, ‘Say it with your chest!’ So it’s funny because it’s like a full circle moment. Now I get a chance to fight him because he was talking crazy. God has put him in front of me. And we’re going to see what’s up Saturday night.”
