Madrimov confident ahead of Saturday’s fight against Crawford

WBA super welterweight champion Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) looks forward to being in the main event on August 3rd against Terence Crawford (40-0, 30 KOs) in his first defense of his title. He is aware of the accolades that Crawford has up to this point, but he feels that provides him additional motivation to get the win at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

“There is always a first guy, and I want to be the first guy to beat him and to break all of the records,” Madrimov said. “I am very excited to get this opportunity to make a statement, and I will Inshallah. I’m not Errol Spence Jr. I am Israil Madrimov. This is my division.”

Madrimov brought up Crawford’s last fight against Spence where Crawford won the undisputed welterweight titles. Crawford is trying to become a four division world champion, but Madrimov is not concerned about what Crawford aims to accomplish.

“He’s moving up in weight. I’m the World Champion here, and I don’t think about him. I think about myself and I think about accomplishing my goals and winning this fight. It’s a huge honour and opportunity for me to show my skills and I want to win this fight in style.”
