Keyshawn, Kelvin, and Keon ready for another show in their hometown
The level of excitement was high for all three of the Davis brothers on Friday as they talked about being part of a Top Rank fight card at the Scope Arena in Norfolk June 7th, as Keyshawn Davis is defending the WBO lightweight title for the first time against Edwin De Los Santos in the main event. Kelvin Davis will be fighting in a super lightweight bout, and Keon has an upcoming bout in the welterweight division.
Keyshawn Davis vs Edwin De Los Santos will be shown live on ESPN, while Kelvin and Keon will fight on the ESPN+-streamed undercard.
Keyshawn (13-0, 9 KOs) is looking forward to headlining another card in the Scope Arena as his last visit was a second round stoppage of Gustavo Lemos. He has been one of the hottest young fighters in the sport, coming off of his win over Denys Berinchyk for the WBO lightweight title in New York City in February. Now he can’t wait to defend that title in his hometown.
“It’s a blessing. Everything from Lemos, I think, really kickstarted the next level in my career,” Keyshawn said. “It definitely kickstarted it. From how our people supported the event, how it turned out, and, of course, the knockout. It definitely kickstarted my career and going into winning the world title with an amazing performance and bringing it back here for the summertime. It’s about to get lit!”
Keyshawn also brought up the last time he fought there and how the atmosphere was last November.
“Norfolk brings that type of energy. There’s something in the water out here. Once we’re all together and we have that atmosphere going again, it’s going to be an amazing event. It’s going to be an amazing event because we are amazing people.”
His older brother Kelvin (15-0, 8 KOs) has been looking for the contenders in the super lightweight division as he has continued to have good showings in his last few bouts. Last month, he knocked out Jose Maruffo in four rounds and in the last card at Scope Arena he had a wide decision victory against Yeis Solano. He wants that opportunity against the contenders in the division, and then a shot at the champions.
“I’m ready. These guys, they’re just baby food. I’m ready for the big boy food. These guys at 140 play hot potato with the belts. I’m ready to come get them.”
Kelvin doubled down on his statement on his intention to go after the champions.
“I’m coming for the belts. Everyone at 140, I’m definitely coming for them. Keep my belts warm because I’m going to collect.”
Keon Davis (2-0, 1 KOs) will have his second fight at the Scope Arena within seven months. His pro debut took place there as he defeated Jalen Moore by decision. He loved that experience in November and hopes to replicate it
“It was great performing in Norfolk for my first fight. I’m going to think about it for the rest of my career. A lot of people showed up. It was great for me.”
Keon wants to make a bigger statement this time around.
“This time we’re going to put a stamp on it. The second time around is going to be a lot better. This is part two.”
