Isaac Lucero “ready for war” against Roberto Valenzuela Jr.
Unbeaten super welterweight contender Isaac Lucero (17-0, 13 KOs) has quickly risen up the rankings in the division, as he is ranked number 7 in the WBA. His last bout against Omar Valenzuela in May ended quickly as Lucero scored a TKO in the second round. Now he is in a position to shine on a pay-per-view telecast as he opens the show on October 25th against Roberto Valenzuela Jr.
“I’m gonna make people fall in love with my style and continue to grow my fan base with this fight,” Lucero said. “Roberto and I both come to fight, and are ready for war.”
That is what Lucero expects at MGM Grand Garden Arena as he 27-year-old comes from a fighting family, as his father was an established Mexican national light heavyweight champion. Furthermore, Lucero started his boxing journey due to his mother who is by his side as his continues his career.
“My mom pushed me into sports to lose some weight and boxing became my way of accomplishing that goal,” said Lucero. “My dad was a national champion and my mom is still my biggest cheerleader, so family and boxing are one in the same for me. My mom always encourages me to stay focused and train hard whenever I start to miss my family back home.”
Given the fact that Lucero hails from La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, he wants to be among the greats from his country. In the past he has been referred to as “Baby Canelo” by Devin Haney’s team as he physically resembles the Mexican star. However, he goes by the “La Bestia” nickname that was his father’s ring moniker. Isaac is aware of the long history of fighters from his country as he emulates some of the moves from legends such as Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez and Juan Manuel Marquez. For this upcoming fight on October 25th and beyond, he wants to make his family and his country proud.
“Being Mexican has taught me that anything is possible if you work hard enough for it,” said Lucero, who trains in Las Vegas with renowned trainer Bob Santos. “The list of Mexican world champions is long. I’m proud of that history and of course want to add my name to that legacy.”
