Fighting in Photos: Mason dazzles in stoppage of Lebron
One of the young prospects in the sport just had a performance that gave signs that he may be a fighter that could do great things in the future.
Abdullah Mason made quick work of Luis Lebron in three rounds, as he scored two knockdowns in the second round and once in the third before referee Mary Glover stepped in to end the fight. Mason overwhelmed Lebron with combination punching to start the bout, going to the body and then landing hooks to force Lebron to have a high guard. The versatility of the 20 year old from Cleveland was on display in the second round as at one point he threw a left uppercut then two right hooks which had Lebron in trouble. Moments later, Mason threw a combination that forced Lebron to take a knee.

It only took a few more seconds for Mason to score another knockdown, as Lebron was still reeling from the barrage of punches from earlier in the round. Lebron was able to get to the end of Round 2, but he didn’t have much to keep Mason off of him in the following round. Midway through the third round a series of combinations forced the corner of Lebron to wave the towel to stop the bout.
Some thought that Lebron would be able to give Mason some work and maybe some adversity, but Mason had no issues at all.
“I guess we fed (Lebron) a little bit of smoke, and he didn’t have the appetite for it,” Mason said. “We make it hard outside the ring, so we can make it easy inside.”
Mason intends to stay active this year as this was his third fight in five months, and he is scheduled to have another bout next month. The last four bouts have been impressive performances and he could aim for another one soon.
