Fury vs. Makhmudov Press Conference Highlights
LONDON – Former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and heavyweight contender Arslanbek Mahmudov traded words at the press conference in advance of their highly anticipated showdown Saturday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With this being the first bout for Fury since 2024, a number of people will be curious to see how he performs after this long layoff. Fury did address that as he feels that he had an eagerness to return to the ring.
“When I walk away every time from boxing, I have zero intentions of returning,” Fury said. “However, after a few months, I’m bored of the normal life – dropping the kids off at school, taking the dog for a walk, that sort of stuff – and I miss the game. I miss the boxing. I miss the press conferences. I miss everything that comes with the big fights.”
“The Gypsy King” will step in the ring against Makhmudov to see what level he is at given that he has been a pro since 2008.
“For the first time in forever, I’m the hunter. I’m not the hunted. And we all know that when I’ve always been the hunter in the past, I’ve always fucked people up. I feel actually sorry for Arslanbek Makhmudov because he’s got to face me – an injury‑free Tyson Fury and on good form. I’ve had good preparation and I’m going to make an example of him.”
Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs) is coming off of a win against David Allen in October, and he is now ranked #5 in the WBA and could be fighting for a world title if he scores a win against Tyson Fury.
“I’m really excited to be in this kind of event, in this big show with these big names,” Makhmudov said. “I’m very happy and can’t wait for Saturday night. I don’t have no pressure because God prepared me for this moment all my life…And I believe this is my time.”
With 19 knockouts in his 21 wins, Makhmudov could make it a tough fight for Fury on Saturday night.
“We are going to give the fans exactly what they deserve – a good fight. I think both styles are a good mix for fans. I have just one game plan: to land a lot of punches and don’t get hit with too many punches. That’s it.”
“Tyson Fury is a great boxer. What I want to do is box good. This is my goal.”
While Makhmudov is looking for a good fight on Saturday night, Fury is confident that he will knock out his opponent.
“I’m going to lay him unconscious on Saturday night at Tottenham,” Fury stated. “Like he said, he’s fighting the great Tyson Fury. Not only will I knock him out, I’ll do it to all the other heavyweights as well.”
