Fighting in Photos: Mason dazzling in stoppage of Jaimes
NEW YORK CITY – Boxing fans were eager to see the next fight for Abdullah Mason after he was part of the Round of the Year against Yohan Vasquez last November. The 20-year-old did not disappoint them on Friday night.
A series of knockdowns scored by Mason over the course of four rounds proved that he was too much for Manuel Jaimes, and referee David Fields stopped the bout at the 1:55 mark of the fourth round to give Mason the TKO victory. The Cleveland native is now 17-0 with 15 wins by way of knockout.
“I gotta keep doing what I’m doing and making these guys look the way I’ve been doing since I turned pro,” Mason said. “I gotta lot more to show.”
Mason’s speed overwhelmed Jaimes from the first round, and a couple counterpunches sent Jaimes to the canvas during the fight. It was a performance that had some thinking that Mason could challenge for a world title soon, and the plan is for him to do so by the end of the year.
“We want the belts, world championship,” Mason said. “Once we get in the position for those titles, that’s what we want.”
