Fighting in Photos – Keyshawn coasts to decision in Albright rematch

NORFOLK – Keyshawn Davis and Nahir Albright had been waiting to step in the ring since the altercation between the two happened in the same arena last year. On Saturday night, Keyshawn showed that he was on another level than his rival.

Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) was too fast for Albright (17-3-1, 8 KOs) over the course of 12 rounds and scored a unanimous decision to stay unbeaten. Two judges had scored the fight 118-108, with the last judge turning in a score of 117-109.

In the first few rounds of the bout Keyshawn showed his speed behind the jab, and was taunting the Philadelphia native. Albright didn’t have much of a response, and was forced to hold early. It wasn’t until the fifth round that Albright was able to land a punch of any significance on Davis.

In the seventh round, the two were locked up in a clinch and Davis raised up and took Albright off his feet and threw him on the canvas. This made referee Malik Waleed take two points from Keyshawn.

Despite the two point deduction, Davis continued to command the pace of the fight until the championship rounds where he landed combinations to force Albright to the ropes, and be close to getting knocked down. There was no knockdown in the bout but it was a clear victory for Keyshawn Davis.

After the fight, Davis talked about how dominant he was against Albright.

“I felt like I was beating him up in every round,” Davis said. “I tried to go for the knockout. We all saw that he was hurt. I just didn’t get it.”

When the point deduction was brought up, Davis felt like his opponent caused it.

“He likes to punch and hold. When he was on my neck, I got angry and I flipped him over.”

This is the second win for Davis this year as he stopped Jamaine Ortiz in January. While he is currently competing in the super lightweight division he does have plans to compete at welterweight. One fighter in that division that he would like to face is WBO champion Devin Haney. As of now it is uncertain if that fight will happen, but it is one that Keyshawn definitely wants.
