Dalton Smith suffers injury in camp, fight with Puello postponed
WBC super lightweight champion Dalton Smith has suffered an injury during training camp, forcing his title defense against Alberto Puello scheduled for June 6th to be postponed.
Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) was looking forward to making his first title defense in his hometown of Sheffield after stopping Subriel Matias in January. Puello (24-1, 10 KOs) is the mandatory challenger to the WBC title, and would have had the opportunity to win the title after losing to Matias last July. Now this fight will be pushed back until a date to be announced, and the fight between Galal Yafai and Ricardo Sandoval will be elevated to the main event. Yafai vs Sandoval will be for the WBC and WBA flyweight titles.
The card on June 6th will also include Josh Padley vs Aqib Fiaz, Ibrahim Nadeem vs Ibraheem Sulaimaan, Aaron Bowman vs Troy Coleman, and bouts involving Leo Atang, Adam Maca, and Connor Mitchell.
