Anthony Joshua will face Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia July 25th
Former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will have his first bout of this year on July 25th, taking on Kristian Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This fight will be broadcast live on DAZN.
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh – Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority – made the announcement that Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) will be headlining a fight card in Riyadh as part of the Esports World Cup Festival, taking place from early July through late August. Joshua knocked out of Jake Paul in Miami last December, and was in a horrific car accident in Nigeria weeks after the win. He has recovered from the injuries sustained in the accident and feels that he is ready to go.
“It’s no secret I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready for stepping back into the ring and today is the next step on that journey,” Joshua said. “I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight deal starting with July 25th in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The multi-fight deal is likely to include the much anticipated encounter between him and domestic rival Tyson Fury, who defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov in Tottenham two weeks ago. However, Joshua has to defeat Prenga (20-1, 20 KOs), who has stopped every fighter that he has defeated with his last win over Joe Jones in February.
“Anthony Joshua is a great fighter, but he made a terrible miscalculation in picking me as his opponent,” Prenga said. “I’m happy that they are overlooking me. I will derail their plans and shock the world this July in Saudi Arabia.”
This bout is the main event of a card titled “The Comeback” and more information about this event will be provided in the next few weeks.
