Ramirez-Postol postponed

The unified super lightweight title fight between Jose Ramirez and Viktor Postol scheduled for February 1st has been postponed until a later date.

Because of the outbreak of the coronavirus in China, Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum decided not to hold the event at Mission Hills Haikou in Hainan, China for the safety of his fighters.

“The health and safety of our fighters and everyone working on the event is the most important thing,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “We hope the situation is brought under control soon. We look forward to staging events at Mission Hills Haikou in the very near future.”

It would have been the first defense of the WBO title that Ramirez won last year by defeating Maurice Hooker, and it would have opened things up for a future fight against Josh Taylor for the undisputed super lightweight championship. Now we will have to wait for the new fight date for Ramirez-Postol to be announced.
