A key battle in the welterweight division will take place as Vergil Ortiz Jr. will face Eimantas Stanionis for the WBA welterweight title on Saturday April 29th. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds and headlines at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas and will be streamed live worldwide on DAZN.

This fight is between two fighters regarded to be in the top ten of the division. Ortiz (19-0, 19 KOs) comes in this bout with key victories over Samuel Vargas, Antonio Orozco, and former world title challenger Egidijius Kavaliauskas before stopping Michael McKinson last summer in Fort Worth. The native of of Grand Prairie, Texas is currently ranked number 1 by the WBA and WBO, number 2 by the WBA, and number 3 by the IBF. With all of his wins coming by way of knockout, Ortiz is viewed as one of the young fighters to watch in the sport. He now has this opportunity to get a world title with a win over Stanionis.

Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs) will be defending the WBA welterweight title for the first time after getting the belt via split decision against Radzhab Butaev in Dallas last year. The Lithuanian has fought all of his professional bouts in the United States, scoring victories over the likes of Justin DeLoach, Luis Collazo and Thomas Dulorme en route to being a world titlist. Stanionis looks to be ready for this challenge against the unbeaten Ortiz.

“Vergil asked for this fight, so here we are,” said Stanionis. “I feel like this is going to be a special fight. We have mutual respect as competitors but make no mistake it’s going to be an absolute war.”
