Super middleweight contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (15-0, 15 KOs) will have his third fight in the year as he will be fighting Ulises Sierra (15-1-2, 9 KOs) on the December 12th fight card headlined by Shakur Stevenson facing Toka Clary in Las Vegas.
Berlanga has been one of the stories in the sport this year as he has continued his streak of first round knockout victories. His last one took place in October as he was able to stop Lanell Bellows. It was the first stoppage loss of Bellows’ career, and now Berlanga faces another opponent who has not been stopped. Sierra had been unbeaten until January, where he lost a unanimous decision to Vladimir Shishkin. Before that loss, he was on an 8 fight winning streak.
With the amount of consecutive knockout victories that Berlanga has had, he has caught the eye of a number of boxing fans and Bob Arum feels that it can lead to big things in the future. “Edgar Berlanga has a unique blend of power and charisma, and I believe he is the next Puerto Rican superstar,” said Arum. “Ulises Sierra is the toughest test of Edgar’s career. Who knows if that will make a difference? We’ve tried to get the kid some rounds before, but once Edgar hurts his opponents, it’s game over.”
This bout scheduled for eight rounds will be the first bout of the televised fight card on December 12th.
