The lightweight fight for the WBC interim title between Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell has been given a new date.
January 2nd will be when these two fighters will face each other which is four weeks after the original date that they were going to fight. A positive COVID-19 test from Campbell prevented the fight from being on December. While it is not confirmed where this bout will take place, the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino was the planned location for the fight when it was first scheduled.
Both fighters are eager to get in the ring as they know how important this fight is in the lightweight division. Garcia has been in camp for weeks and despite the delay, he’s ready to be in the main event for the first fight card in 2021.
“My mindset going into this fight hasn’t changed, and my training hasn’t stopped,” said Garcia. “I’m excited we have a new date and can finally bring this to the fans.”
The postponement has not phased Luke Campbell, either. He looks forward to opening 2021 with a statement win against the unbeaten Garcia.
“New date, new year, same result,” said Campbell. “I’m fully back in training and have never felt better. What a way to start 2021 this is going to be with a clinical Luke Campbell win.”
More information about this fight and the undercard will be disclosed at a later time.
